Mountain West Conference

I would have to say the last couple of week have been a killer for the Mountain West. First having Utah decided to leave for the Pac 10 and now BYU leaving to be Independent. Its been a bad summer for the sports programs. Everyone else has seemed to have an option, so here is mine.
Utah: I think its great that Utah decided to make the move to a bigger conference that will give the school more recognition and more opportunities to advanced in the nation aspect of things. Do I think they could have busted the BCS by staying. Yes! Having Utah, BYU, TCU and Boise St. in one conference would have given any other conference heart burn. That is a might big power house of untapped potential, oh well we will never know. I hope they will do well in the Pac 10 and make the state of Utah proud. I think it will be tough for them and no cake walk by any means but they will hold there own. Just don't raise tuition!!! I beg of you.
BYU- Now with BYU going Independent. I have mixed feelings. I know they want some more recognition as well but not sure if going Independent will do it. Sure they have some help from ESPN for tv time but are they going to regret this in the future. I think its funny that the other sports will be part of a religious conference (WCC). Its kind of a good fit but strange fit as well. The pros I see is they will get more attention and we will see some bigger name schools that will play at LaVell Edwards Stadium. It will be broad casted further then the MTN station that sucks so bad. I am excited to see what BYU can come up with in the next couple of years. Also I see this as an opening for other conferences if they offer it to BYU. There has been talk for other opening up.
As of the Mountain West, I feel bad for Boise St. to make the jump thinking that Utah and BYU where going to stick around and make it stronger. It leaves Boise St. and TCU in a weaker conference then both really want. I would not be surprised to see them jump ship in the next couple of years or earlier. I would have to say either the WAC or MWC will be out of a job here in a couple of years. But that is just my option. Good for BYU and Utah to make the moves they did. I hope they are successful in their endeavors
